The WROCC Guide to Networking

Starting in late 2009, WROCC began to publish a series of articles on networking in its monthly newsletter, The WROCC. Written by its members, for its members, these covered a range of topics from the fundamentals of connecting together a couple of computers through to filesharing between RISC OS machines and the mainstream systems.

So far the guide has two parts: the first launched in April 2010 and the second which followed in April 2011.

Part 1

By April 2010 there had been enough articles published to create the first 20 page A5 booklet; launched at the Wakefield Show in 2010, this is available for purchase to members and non-members alike. It contains

  • An Introduction to Network Addresses
  • How to Select and Set IP Addresses
  • Looking Up Domain Names
  • Accessing the Internet
  • Setting up ShareFS
  • Sharing with Samba

Part 2

Even after the first part of the guide was released, our members continued to write articles. The second 20 page instalment of the guide was launched at the Wakefield Show in 2011, and contains

  • File Transfer Protocol with Windows 7
  • Using LanMan98 with Windows 7
  • The RISC OS 6 Firewall
  • Connecting With NFS
  • Filesharing to Linux over NFS
  • Filename and Filetype Conversion

Each part of the guide is available in a 20 page A5 printed booklet for £3.00 including P&P, or in PDF form for £1.50. To order your copies, complete the Order Form and post it back to us. Contact us if you have any questions.
